haha exactly.
funny thing is, they still sell for $200 easy on Ebay...I'm throwing in that free copy of madden I got and some other games, so $300 could be a possibility.

Couple things ive learned about Black Friday: Never buy a TV!!! Seriously some people are insane waiting in 6 hour long lines or spending money on a lesser TV brand.
Yours truely has been raping craigslist the last 3 days and ending up picking up a 3 month used, perfect condition Sony Bravia KDL-40EX500 aka a 40", 1080p, 120hz, Bravia TV for $265 big ones! Going for $650 plus USED on Amazon right now. Picture on this baby is AWESOME. Watched Boardwalk last night on it and I actually felt like I was back in the 20's. #CraigsListRape
Then in the same day I sold my POS 32' Element 720p TV for $160. Basically upgraded to a $1000 TV in a 3 hour span for $105 American.
Boom goes the dynamite!

I really hope you weren't referring to Vizio as a lesser brand...
And I'll take a 2 year warranty covered by the manufacturer over a stolen TV any day of the week, lol.

Actually, I am.
Vizio is one of the cheapest produced TV's on the market. Wanna know how I know that? I worked at HHGregg for 6 months when I was 19/20. Our GM always talked about how cheaply made they were and the return rate on Vizio's was ten-fold higher then any other TV.
Wanna know another thing I learned? NEVER BUY A WARRANTY. Not that you did here, but just for future reference. 90% of TVs purchased new are fine for over 2-3 years. Most TV's have 75k-100k hour watch life. They last for a while.
TV ratings by yours truly go as follows: 1. Sony-by a landslide (Best Motion and Digital processor produced). 2. Samsung- Very good TV's as well, highly respected. 3. LG- Same area as Samsung, very good reputation with quality products. 4. Sharp- highly respected TV's known for they're infuse in LCD's 5. Toshiba- Japanese Giants. 6. Panisonic- Company specializes in Plasma TVs which have been going out of style as of late.
7. Everything else. Seriously not to hate on your purchase but Vizio isn't even on the map. Look at any TV manufacturer's ratings or reviews and 9/10 they won't even be listed in the top 6 or 7. Good thing you got a manufacturer's warranty to come with it. (Ya wonder why it's 2 years?)
If I were you personally I'd take it back, get my $400 back and start scoping. There's so many good TV's people sell due to job loss, not being able to pay rent Ect.. You can find absolute bargains.

Seriously Gene you should bring your TV over and compare it to this. I've found 3 listings of the same one (or around it) at around $400-500 that are described to be in perfect shape and look good.
I'm sure you could work somebody down to $325-350. People also love trades on Craig's so maybe offer your old PS3 and you could get one for possibly $200.
Just an idea.

i only got the warranty cuz it's refurbished--if it was brand new, yea, no way in fucking hell I'm buying that.
I doubt I'll ever buy any electronics from anywhere but a store. Having the assurance of being able to return/exchange it is priceless when it comes to huge purchases like that.
As for the ratings, the specs on the Viz are 120hz, 50,000:1 contrast, 5ms refresh, 4 hdmi ports (and 1 composite). And it's LCD, not LED/Plasma which burn out way faster (ask Moody about that one).
And in terms of made cheaply, I don't doubt they are cheap, but they are durable as hell. I've been hauling my other one around for 5 years in the back of my car back and forth between dubtown, osu and capital and haven't had a problem with it yet...considering this one won't move (unless I do), I like my chances of getting a good life out of this one too.
As for the name brands being the best, I agree with you. Sony, Samsung, etc all make far superior products, but at a substantial markup compared to lesser praised brands like Vizio. It's exactly like buying a computer--would you rather have a fancy new Mac or a decent Acer/Asus/HP/etc? Well, if it were free, anyone would say the Mac. But when you bring cost-benefit into the decision, Mac places dead last because you get absolutely no bang for the buck.
I'm no computer whiz, but for 660, my new laptop has 650 gb, 8 gb ram, an independent graphics card and a gigabit ethernet connection to go along with wireless n....you know what that would get you if you bought an apple product? nothing.

I agree with 90% of what you just said, but totally disagree with your take on relating TV's to Computers. If I'm ever making a substantial purchase on a computer I am always, 100% of the time buying it new. In my opinion computers burn out 3 times as fast as TV's. Plasma's burn out the fastest. I would never buy a plasma.
I also agree that yes your first TV (as well as mine) lasted for about 5 years and worked great. But those are were entry level LCD TV's not special dandies. You can find great deals on newly used TVs for 50-75% off the MSRP and still be just as well off as people buying them new. Again warranty and returns shouldn't be a big factor in a TV purchase IMO. I inspected mine for 5-10 mins, made sure the bulbs were looking good, HDMI inputs were working, and there was no problems with the screen Ect..
I was just watching Ocean's Eleven and Creg walked by and thought I was watching in Blue Ray when it was just on HBO. Picture is nuts.
What happened to Moody's TV?

moods broke after (relatively) no time^^
I don't doubt that you got a deal, but for me, the amount of risk far outweighs the reward. Once you start getting to 1080p/120hz (and up) you're splitting hairs in terms of quality (LCD speaking). Yea, sonys are better, but to get that additional quality you gotta pay out the ass or take a huge gamble like you just did.
In either instance, I'm not interested. Obviously I'm a conservative sob and youre the second coming of wild bill, so that's just the way we look at things--is either perfectly right? No. Is either completely wrong? No. Finding value depends solely on what you value. For some, it's dependability. For others, it's the glitz and glamour. Whatever you value most should be the leading factor when it comes to whatever you buy, ya digg?

My point is this though. 90% of LCD TV's not thrown off bridges or out windows make it to the 2 or 3 year mark without any problems. Your warranty and most warranties are for 2 or 3 years. So does that 10% risk really mean that much to you where you're willing to pay more for a lesser brand brand new instead of getting top of the line lightly used at half the cost of your new TV?
I bet Moody's situation made you pretty cautious. Am I right? I'm not hating im just asking lol
I bet Moody is furious. He paid a pretty penny for that thing.

Also just to add in I don't think all LCD's are splitting hairs. Some yes, but not all. For instances this one has a 150,000:1 contrast ratio compared to your 50,000:1. As well as an Ambeint Sensor which is might be the best thing about the TV. It can gauge the light in the room so the TV is brighter in the Dark and less bright in the light for optimum viewing automatically. Some have drastic differences.
Again, im not trying to gloat just use it as an example.
