98% of byu'ers are lds's, so its not a necessity, its just that you will only have 1 wife by the time youre 20 instead of 7 when normal cougars come back from their missions
so you dont have to be a mormon, but you do have to follow their code and i quote:
"Brigham Young University, Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Brigham Young University-Idaho, and LDS Business College exist to provide an education in an atmosphere consistent with the ideals and principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That atmosphere is created and preserved through commitment to conduct that reflects those ideals and principles. Members of the faculty, administration, staff, and student body at BYU, BYU-H, BYU-I, and LDSBC are selected and retained from among individuals who voluntarily live the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Observance of such is a specific condition of employment and admission. Those individuals who are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are also expected to maintain the same standards of conduct, except church attendance. All who represent BYU, BYU-H, BYU-I, and LDSBC are to maintain the highest standards of honor, integrity, morality, and consideration of others in personal behavior. By accepting appointment on the faculty, continuing in employment, or continuing class enrollment, individuals evidence their commitment to observe the Honor Code standards approved by the Board of Trustees “at all times and . . . in all places.” (Mosiah 18:9)"
hahaha, you also cant drink tea or coffee, let alone come anywhere near alcohol. no sleeveless or tight fitting clothing (thank god, no emo's), no "extreme hair styles/colors", no sideburns below the earlobe (looks like im not going to byu), no beards or piercings. girls have to have their shit below the knee (wow, fuck that. thats the only reason class is worth going to), and only one piercing per ear. also, shoes must be worn at all times on campus. your not allowed to look at porn on your computer (or make porn for that matter), no homosexual activity (so gays are allowed, just not allowed to fuck).
honestly, how the fuck do they get anyone to go there? i would tell them to eat a dick then take my shoes off and cut my sleeves while running around campus with my ears pierced

I've got a Mormon friend in college, he goes to A&M. He is on his mission right now in Las Vegas haha. But I did read over his manual. Shoes must be word all the time, that one is true. Only time is sandals to and from the community showers. Cannot have a backpack, but can have a one strap book bag. If you knew this guy you would never think that he is mormon, he is pretty crazy.

I'd have been excommunicated just for the alcohol rule alone.
