As some of you guys know i'm a big health freak. I lift weights, try to eat some what right, and run just about every single day. Like most ppl im always feenin' for a cheeseburger with fries or some chipotle every single day. Its safe to say I succomb to my cravings just about everyday too. The reason I am making this thread is 1. I have insomnia and 2. maybe it might help some ppl out. 3. Im gunna pull a kent and writing a book. 4. Most of yall prob wont read this and think this is cheesy or homo but if your bored at work enjoy.
First off one of the best quotes I have ever heard was by one of my friends who I lift with told me "you are what you eat." Thus meaning no matter how hard you workout or train if you leave the gym and go and eat nachos and snickers with mozzerella sticks the rest of the day you're not gunna get anything out of your workout.
Lifting weights is one of the best highs one can possible get throughout there life. One of Arnolds famous quotes is "The greatest feeling you can get in a gym or the most satisfying feeling you can get in the gym is the pump. Let's say you train your biceps, blood is rushing in to your muscles and that's what we call the pump. Your muscles get a really tight feeling like your skin is going to explode any minute and its really tight and its like someone is blowing air into your muscle and it just blows up and it feels different, it feels fantastic. It's as satifying to me as coming is, you know, as in having sex with a woman and coming. So can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like getting the feeling of coming in the gym, I'm getting the feeling of coming at home, I'm getting the feeling of coming backstage when I pump up when I pose out in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am coming day and night. Its terrific, right? So I am in heaven." There couldnt be a more true statement either. Once you learn how to really train right and go hard for 45 min straight to an hour you really can leave the gym feeling like hercules and having garden hose veins sticking out of your arms. The feeling of actually feeling good and looking good and knowing that you do is beyond great. But you also have to have the mentality that you're never satisfied because when you do you get complacent and stop improving your overall frame and body which leads to less results and satisfaction.
Eating right is one of the biggest keys and problems to most peoples diets and frames. Most people make the mistake of eating late at night or not eating any breakfast which are just metabolism killers. Alotta people also eat 3 or 4 huge meals instead of 6 or 7 small ones everyday too which also just murder your metabolism. I shoot for 6 small meals throughout the course of each day about every 2 and a half hours apart. Eating a good breakfast is one of the most important things one can do to keeping a balanced diet and staying away from there hunger urges. And im not talking about grabbing a pop tart or just eating coco puffs either. Getting atleast a good source of protein whether it be eggs, oatmeal, whole wheat, or a bagel with peanut butter is essential to starting your day off right. Some people don't really understand why they go through the day feeling all dragging and lazy and the fact that they dont eat a good breakfast is the biggest reason why!
Just before noon is usually when I have my second meal which usually consists of either some tuna, protein, granola, or chicken. This is also one of the meals where is is okay to cheat and eat those chicken fingers and fries or that cheeseburger as well. If you know youre gunna cheat (like me) cheating earlier in the day is the best time to do it. The earlier you cheat the easier it is for your body to get those bad carbs and saturated fats out of your diet. Lunch is also the best time to eat your biggest meals because your body can break down all the nutrients you absorb before you fall asleep.
My third meal is usually similiar to my second, fatty shit that im craving, but wih a good source of protein. Usually I try to get a serving of fruit or veggies in here too if I can as well. A lot of the time I cant and I just drink V8 juice or grapefuit juice and that also gets the job done. V8 juice, whether you like the taste of tomato juice or not is one of the best things one should consume every day. Honestly, it makes you feel better and you feel like you have more energy and are ready to go to work or school with more of a workman like mindset.
Now half the time I workout between my third and fourth meal and the other half of the time I wait till late at night and lift between my last meal too. This is essential because the meal after your workout is very important. When you get done lifting you want to try and get food in you within 15-20 min usually consisting of high carbs and sugar. If you like candy bars this is also the time to eat them as your body is feenin' for fast burning nutrients. I usually eat some kinda chicken or tuna with brown rice some of the time or granola with a gatorade when I get done lifting. The reason why it is so important to make sure you eat quickly when youre done working out is because your muscles are torn and hopefully your feeling the "pump" so your muscles need the nutrients to fill them back up and make sure youre getting stronger. If you dont eat after you lift for say 2 or 3 hours you are really hurting yourself and slowing down the process of making significant gains because youre not treating your muscles properly.
Your last couple meals should be your lighter ones as you are getting closer to sleeping and want to try and eat as healthy as possible. Cheating now is really when you start adding on the Lbs and adding to your love handles because your body doesnt break down the food before you fall asleep. Going to bed on a full stomache really kills your metabolism as well. Usually I try and not fall asleep until 2 or 3 hours after my last full meal just so my body has a chance to break it down.
This is the conclusion of my health nut post. If any of you guys have any questions about lifting or eat or anything im more then happy to help you. That can include interest in workouts or best ways to get a cardio session, different types of foods ect ect... Remember everyone has to start somewhere as well...
